About Us

Why the South Carolina Hispanic & Latino Bar Association Matters

South Carolina is changing.

The Hispanic and Latino community is one of the fastest-growing populations in our state, representing approximately 8.5% of South Carolina's population—more than 470,000 residents—and continuing to grow each year.

Despite that growth, Hispanic and Latino attorneys remain significantly underrepresented within the legal profession. Nationally, Hispanic attorneys comprise approximately 6% of all licensed attorneys, despite Hispanics representing nearly one-fifth of the United States population. This disparity is reflected throughout the legal profession, including here in South Carolina.

Representation matters.

Clients deserve access to legal professionals who understand their language, culture, and experiences. Law students deserve mentors who have successfully navigated the profession before them. Attorneys deserve opportunities to develop professionally, build meaningful relationships, and pursue leadership within the legal community.

The South Carolina Hispanic & Latino Bar Association was established to help bridge that gap by fostering professional excellence, expanding opportunity, and strengthening the legal profession throughout our state.
